SPEAKERS’ BUREAU
The goal of Surgicorps International’s Speakers’ Bureau is to maximize the ever-increasing resource of experienced volunteers and increase public awareness on a local, national and international level. Speakers will help to educate the public about Surgicorps and motivate them to support its mission as a donor, volunteer or both. A core group of speakers (staff and volunteers) will be available for community meetings or gatherings. Click here to learn more.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Tony Demos Scholarship, named in memory of a beloved lifetime supporter, donor, and fellow adventurer with Surgicorps, is awarded to team members who demonstrate enthusiasm and willingness to lead patient and/or community education initiatives on missions. The nature of these initiatives vary between trip locations, and may grow or change based on feedback and need at each site. Training and supplies will be provided. Recipients also have opportunity for active roles in other areas, when not leading education initiatives. This scholarship provides up to $2,500 toward the recipient’s trip expenses.
The LELF (Linda Esposto Legacy Fund) Award is named in honor of our first Executive Director of Surgicorps, Linda Esposto. It is awarded to volunteers who have shown sustained commitment to Surgicorps’ Mission and exemplary teamwork during trips. Recipients fill critical-need positions on trips and/or provide key support to team leaders and coordinators. This award provides full or 50% coverage of average trip expenses per site.
The SMYL (Student Medical Youth Leadership) Scholarship is awarded to students of the medical, dental, PA, or nursing professions, who have a genuine interest in international service and want to incorporate this into their future careers. This scholarship provides $1000 towards the recipient’s trip costs.
Please contact the office at 412-767-4185 or info@surgicorps.org for additional details.

ZAMBIA:
Surgicorps travels to the Beit Cure hospital in Lusaka, Zambia twice a year- in April and September. This Cure facility treats and advocates for vulnerable pediatric patients. Surgicorps performs head to toe burn reconstruction, congenital hand surgery, and brachial plexus surgeries. This team also provides community education on brachial plexus injuries and burn first aid and prevention, as well as occupational therapy training. In addition to the medical personnel (surgeons, anesthesiologists, CNAs, nurses, surgical techs, PAs, NPs, and OTs), the team includes non-medical members who provide care and comfort to patients on the wards, and before and after surgery. Non-medical team members also host basketball and pickle ball clinics for 200+ children, at a local sports facility across the street from the hospital. Beginning in 2026, we will add a vision screening clinic at the sports facility.

GUATEMALA:
Surgicorps travels annually the first week in August to the Hospital Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro in Antigua, Guatemala. Las Obras is a mission-based hospital whose staff partners with a rotation of international teams throughout the year to provide comprehensive and affordable care to patients of all ages. The Surgicorps team performs hand, OB/GYN, general, and ENT procedures, as well as dental care. This large team is limited to medical personnel (surgeons, anesthesiologists, CNAs, nurses, surgical techs, PAs, NPs, OTs, and also MDs for the recovery area) and Spanish translators.

VIETNAM:
Surgicorps travels to the 1A Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam annually in end of October through early November. This is a unique experience in a very urban setting. The Surgicorps team provides cleft lip and palate surgery, head to toe burn reconstruction, and congenital hand surgery. In addition, this team provides occupational therapy training. The team includes medical personnel (surgeons, anesthesiologists, CNAs, nurses, surgical techs, PAs, NPs, OTs, and also MDs for the recovery area), Vietnamese translators, and non-medical team members who provide comfort to patients before and after surgery and on the wards.

GHANA:
Surgicorps newest trip is to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Adum-Kumasi, Ghana annually in March. This is a large, public, inner-city hospital that treats patients of all ages. The Surgicorps team performs hand surgery. The team also provides lectures and education to the local plastic surgery residents and occupational therapists. In addition, Surgicorps is helping to build operating room functionality and safety with machinery and supplies. The team size is limited while we grow this partnership, and includes medical personnel only (surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse, PA, OT).
